On Monday I had a meeting with my client to discuss the initial brief and the next step of the assignment.
When reviewing the initial brief with them we only found one thing that needed to be changed. They wanted their target audience expanded from just septic tank owners to septic tank owners, shops with grease traps, dairy farms, general effluence from farms and also any person in the market for Porta loo hire. Also I have a new, perhaps specification, they want the website to remind the users that they are a local family business. This could perhaps be done through having a photo of them on the contact us page. In doing this it could also remove the professionalism if the photo of them put in badly. but it would also make a point of difference to the other site. I will need to ask their opinion on this point.
For the next step I got them to do some research on the types of sites they like. From this we established the following:
They would like the website to have a theme related to nature. They liked the idea of the E-can website with the ferns in the background of their header but also said that that i could extend this background to be a background for the whole site. I also said that they would like their text to be in the center of the page, at the time i had the apple page which is exactly what they wanted. They also said that they didn't like website that the page is "crammed up into the top corner" they used the Telecom home page as an example of this. They then told me that they had an existing web banner as part of the Rangiora.net site which they wanted to be linked and possibly continue the same theme on their website. they liked this because of the use of their blue colour and the association with nature.
From this i said that i would have a look and they come back to them with some initial concepts based on the environment and nature theme.
While we were having our meeting their son keep had an idea to use a theme involving Toilet paper and Toilet, which i will also try to accommodate in my concepts.
